Here’s how to write a blog post or social media post the wrong way:
Give immense value, without any plan whatsoever. And then be left wondering why nobody signed up for your newsletter or bought the thing you were so sure your audience needed in their lives.
Value in an of itself doesn’t sell. At least not reliably enough for you to pay your rent and bills with the money you make from your business.
So, I’ll tell you a secret and I want you to etch it in your brain:
Nobody wants to do a single damn thing you want them to do.
Heck, they don’t even want to do the thing that they know is good for them!
So you always, and I mean, ALWAYS… have to give people a reason to act.
“Value” in and of itself isn’t a reason.
To me, that’s what marketing is. It is to give people a reason to choose, on their own, to act.
Now, this may be slightly different from the standard definition of marketing if you look it up, but at the end, this definition works for me.
Every piece of value I give freely isn’t enough on its own… said value must create demand for the offer…. be that a free lead magnet or a paid program or whatever.
Value that doesn’t create demand does nothing for a business owner.
So, if you’ve been creating valuable content for your readers and they’re still not taking action, then I hope this Field Notes issue will help you solve that problem. I’ve written it to help you connect your value to creating demand, a.k.a., to market with your content.
With that said, let’s go!
