Here’s the thing. Two of the promotion strategies in this list are going to be what everyone knows how to do, because as far as I know, these are the two promo strategies deployed by every merchant ever, well before online business was a thing.
I’ll tell you what they are right now: Discounts and Cart Closure.
OK, my bad… cart closure probably came after online businesses became a thing. But you know what I mean.
Discounts and cart closures have been around for ages.
And there’s a reason behind it.
They work.
As simple as that.
If you’ve been subscribed to my newsletter for any amount of time, then you’ll have noticed that I often run timed discounts to my courses.
Again, because they just work!
I could wake up one morning, decide that I need to make some money, whip out a few special 3-day discount emails, and voila! Sales!
But see… there are soooooo many other ways to promote stuff and make a crapton of money!
So many more interesting ways in which you can energize your audience beyond just giving them a boring discount.
Just because something works doesn’t mean you should always be doing it, y’know?
Sometimes it helps to jazz things up a bit.
What’s more… while discounts and cart closures work, they don’t always work, and not for every kind of product.
Let me give you an example:
Let’s say you have a book on Amazon or something. It costs $15. If you woke up one morning and decided you wanted to sell more books, how would you do it?
Slap a discount on a $15 book?
That’s ridiculous!
So, what do most book writers do?
They launch a book and wait for the universe to do its magic… miraculously send buyers their way. Which can happen, but should one just be sucking on one’s thumb and wait for a miracle? Not if they’re smart!
Or, if one is more proactive, they might start booking podcasts to sell books… which is very smart, and it works.
But there are other ways, too! Or at least… ONE really good way to sell more books, and that’s one of the promo strategies we will look at in this issue of Field Notes… among several others to sell not just books but all sorts of other digital products.
